Walked into moms room yesterday at a few minutes before 9 am. She was not there and the room was dark. I mean no lights and with a cloudy day, the room was very dark. Only then did I realize she could never turn on a light if she had to. There is one floor lamp, one desk lamp and the switch for the overhead room light is high on the wall....none of which she can reach from her wheelchair.
Alexa to the rescue. With a smart plug from Home Depot plugged into the receptacle (which happens to also be high on the wall right behind the floor lamp)....
a) I can add a routine to her Alexa app to turn the light on every morning ...say 8AM.
b) I can add a routine to her Alexa app to turn the light off every evening same time as I have he TV turning off ..9PM.
c) one can use the "button" on the smartplug to easily turn on / off the lamp. (after I duct tape the lamp switch to disable using that.
d) I can post a paper on the wall by the switch (use this button to turn on/off lamp) or say "Computer -turn on light / Computer - turn off light.
