From imesfuneralhome.com:
Sidney Edward Martin Jr., age 84, of Murray, KY went to be with our Lord on October 24, 2023, with his family close by.
He was born September 10, 1939, in Rochester, PA, to Sidney Martin Sr and Margaret (Pike) Martin who preceded him in death. Sid was also preceded in death by his eldest brother, George Sidney Martin, 1943, Bridgewater, PA.
Mr. Martin is survived by son, Sidney Edward Martin III (Kelly); daughter, Robin Martin-Holmes (Terence Holmes); four granddaughters, Molly Braga (Nick), Carolyn Martin, Mackensie Martin, and Victoria Holmes; grandson, Ian Holmes (Harshitha Ramesh); and great grandson Kairav Holmes and great granddaughter, Lola Braga. Also surviving are brothers Donald Martin Sr, Cooks Forest, PA, Charles Martin (Weltha) of Rock Hill, SC, and many dearly loved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Sid and his future wife, JoAnn Spade, grew up close to each other in a small farming community in western PA, but lived in separate school districts so didn’t interact until they met in July, 1955, at Uncle Gerald and Aunt Barb Spade’s home. Their first date was about a week later on a beautiful summer evening on the visiting Showboat Majestic. Their favorite dates were always topped off with a visit to family or close friends. They frequently attended Sunday School, Church services, and Church youth activities. During those years, Sid and Jo accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. Sid and Jo were married on July 18, 1958, in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Freedom, PA.
Sid’s career began in 1957, at the Shippingport Atomic Power Plant in Shippingport, PA, as a Test Technician in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for a local utility. Sid and Jo prepared two five-year plans for their life objectives focused on a happy life together. While Jo focused on home and family, Sid worked on his career and obtained an engineering degree from nearby Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA. During that time, Sid served in the United States Coast Guard (he was Honorably Discharged in March, 1966). For the next 16 years, they lived in several states while Sid enjoyed working as an engineer or manager in several Nuclear Power Stations. Along the way, he obtained a state license in MA as a Professional Nuclear Engineer, and a federal license from the United States Department of Energy Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a Senior Reactor Operator. In the early 80s, Sid and Jo founded Martin Engineering Associates, Inc., Ohio, the start of over 20 years of blending work and family.
Sid left us with this message to share: What did we learn of value? Love, respect, and commitment to each other, and family is top priority. In all ways, mentors are extremely important; therefore, learn from them and possibly mentor others. Family can be your greatest joy, but you have to work at it. Teach your children respect for others, and especially authority. Fun begins at home, and do not waste your life on anything that harms your health. Always, be there for your children.
