Mom has many scrapbooks and tons of clippings and photos. All things C.C.W.C related are in this section.
In September 1962 Shirley J. (Eales) Pike, traveled to Philadelphia to the Federation of Woman's Clubs to establish the Center Civic Woman's Club. This is not to imply she did this single handed. In fact she has told me an entire bus load of ladies went up together. I am sure it included Aunt Charlotte and several other founding members. At the time of this posting, mom is 89 and doing well in an assisted living home. As I go through her many scrapbooks, I am collecting all things Center Civic woman's Club here.
By the very next month the October Meeting Program shows the membership was over 80 people. By the following February Meeting Progam they had to postpone their first Variety Show till March as the new Center Twp High School Auditorium was not quite finished. I have come to learn the Varieties Unlimited show they performed was the very first use of the Center Twp High School Auditorium. If you take the time to read only one of the half dozen or so Programs (image carousels) I have posted , I highly suggest it be 1963 March - Varieties Unlimited. There are so many names and places referenced from the past I could not help but wonder at the small knit community I once knew as my entire world.
PS: the photo on the TV is me.

This is an overall view of the new $2,600,000 Center Township High school.
MAIN OFFICE - This is where the public goes when it comes in the main entrance of the new high school which was occupied ahead of the original schedule last September 24th. School secretaries staffing the main office include Mrs. Betty Dierdorf, school board secretary; Marlene Saice, secretary to Rudy Gradisek, principal; Mrs Ruth Boyer, secretary to Dr. Howard Fink, supervising principal, and Mrs Helen Jackson, in charge of cafeteria accounts.
The well-lighted room is the library in the new $2,600,000 Center Township High School. Seating is provided for 100 persons. Students have raised $500 towards purchase of books through a candy sale and are now in midst of another candy sale expected to raise $500 more. The Center Civic Women's Club held a variety show recently and expects to turn over $1,000 for book purchases. The library is expected to be officially open next fall when a librarian is obtained. Presently a classroom is being used as a temporary library. Most previous books purchased by the school district were up to 8th or 9th grade level.
The 640 seat auditorium with cherry wood panels side and back wall provide an attractive decor for the senior high school auditorium. The 640 seats are divided into three sections. Aisle rug runners are being considered for installation by the school board. Students use the facility for an assembly program for first time April 4th. First public program took place the previous week when Center Civic Women's Club held a variety show to raise funds for the school library. Construction of the $2,600,000 building was started in February 1961 and practically everything in the building has finished except for odds and ends expected to be completed within a month.

There is no roof in this open court which is enclosed on all four sides by various parts of the new center township high school. Access to the court is available from the main office, the library, auditorium and gymnasium. It may be used as a smoking area when public affairs are scheduled in the building, according to Rudy Gradisek, principal. Trees and shrubs are in process of being planted in the unpaved dark shaded areas shown.
