A while back, I joined my friend at one of his DJ gigs, and I was blown away watching him set up. The sheer amount of equipment he hauled was unreal! He works out of the back of his pickup truck, which has a cap, and has to drag all his gear out onto a table. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw him crawling on his hands and knees in the back of that truck to get everything out—and he’s older than me!
Recently, I signed up for a Spotify account and realized I could connect it to my Bluetooth boombox. This got me thinking: could this be a simpler solution for his DJing setup?
At one of his gigs, I noticed someone requested a song he didn’t have. With Spotify, that wouldn’t have been an issue. The entire world of music is at your fingertips—any song you could ever need is just a search away.
I dug a little deeper into Spotify’s features and discovered they have a crossfade option, which is perfect for DJing. As one song fades out, the next one seamlessly fades in. Plus, you can see the queue, adjust it on the fly, move songs around, or add a new track to play next. It’s like the ultimate DJ tool, all from your phone!
To make this setup even better, I bought a $30 Bluetooth receiver to hardwire the output to his amp. With that, all he’d need is the receiver and his speakers. Or, if he used powered speakers, it’d be even simpler—just the speakers and the Bluetooth device. No more crawling around in the truck or lugging heavy gear!
Ain’t technology wonderful?
