Several years ago, we used to frequent The Harmony Inn Restaurant, one of the oldest licensed establishments in Butler County, located in the National Historic District of Harmony, Pennsylvania. In the early days, our visits were mostly to the bar area, which, at that time, still featured a copper-covered counter and remnants of a trough running along the bottom of the bar – a relic from when the bar was for men only.
The restaurant also boasted a unique outdoor seating area, perfect for dinner gatherings. One of their standout sauces was a bourbon-flavored wing sauce that I absolutely loved. I loved it so much, in fact, that I repeatedly asked for the name of the sauce, only to be denied each time. During one visit, I even spoke to the owner, who returned to my table with a smile, saying, “The chef says if I reveal the sauce, he’ll quit.”
Then, one day, Kathy’s son Keith joined us for an outing, and our server happened to be a pretty young lady who seemed to take an interest in him. Needless to say, Keith got the information I had been chasing for so long. With that, I started making my own version of the wings at home, which soon became a hit among my friends.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
