**A Visit to Lakeview Assisted Living and the Crocs Experiment**
After stopping at Walmart, I headed over to Lakeview Assisted Living. As timing would have it, Mom's automated 9 a.m. video call came in on my phone while I was on my way there. She wasn't in her room, so I spent about 10 minutes looking at an empty room, knowing I would arrive in about 25 minutes. The only notable thing about the call was that the floor lamp was, yet again, off (for those familiar with this ongoing saga). My main goal, however, was to deliver the new Crocs I had just picked up for Mom at Walmart.
The issue with her current slippers is that while she can push them on from her wheelchair, they tend to slip off when she pulls herself along, which frustrates her. I was hoping the Crocs, with their strap around the back, would stay on better. As seen in the photo, the heels of her slippers are flattened out because she can't reach down to fix them. Occasionally, I find them correctly on her when one of the staff takes the time to kneel down and adjust them for her—a task I struggle with myself. .
The new Crocs, however, didn’t work out as I had hoped. They came with a fur lining (almost like built-in socks), which made it impossible for her to fit her feet into them. So, I removed the lining. They also had straps around the back, which I thought would help keep them on, but she couldn't slip her feet in over the straps. After removing the straps, she was able to slide right into them.
To my delight, the Crocs stayed on even without the straps. The back heels were just right for her to pull herself along without the shoes slipping off. Voila! She can now easily put them on and off, and they don’t fall off while she’s using them.
